Faecal Sludge Management In Africa Socioeconomic Aspects And Human The faecal sludge treatment plant is a transform freetown initiative that aims to address the various health and environmental concerns relating to managing waste in the city. It is to address this challenge that fcc approached uncdf to propose this second project which aimed to create at least one prototype from waste–to–energy using the processed end product from the kingtom faecal sludge treatment plant and solid waste biomass. In order to address the liquid waste element of that target, with funding from fcdo and with goal sl as implementing partner, freetown city council (fcc) has built and started operating freetown’s first ever faecal sludge treatment plant in kingtom in 2021. Funded by the foreign, commonwealth and development office (fcdo), the construction of the plant in freetown is the first stage in transforming and improving the sanitation for more than one million people living in the sierra leonean capital. With support from fcdo and in partnership with freetown city council, goal completed construction the facility in march 2021. it is the first liquid waste treatment plant in sierra leone and utilises innovative geobag de watering technology which separates liquid waste from solid waste. The visit focused on a pioneering faecal sludge management (fsm) plant, implemented by goal in partnership with the freetown city council funded by uk’s foreign, commonwealth and development office (fcdo) and irish aid funding the operation. Prior to the project, there was no contained disposal area or treatment for faecal waste in the city. this initial sludge treatment plant was constructed using geotextile dewatering technology and has the capacity to treat about 60m3 volume of faecal sludge per day.
