Interview With Picture Book Writer Connie Dow Journey To Kidlit It was a long journey from having my knees shake before an oral book report in elementary school to speaking in front of audiences, but the journey was fueled by my passion for dance. confidence and self esteem were valuable gifts that i gained along the way. She has drawn upon her career as a performer and dance educator in writing her books and articles, so that teachers, parents, and caregivers can offer children the gift of movement. Here’s what i’ve learned after writing 3 award winning children’s books: a great children’s book doesn’t start with the draft. it starts with developing the story first. After reading it, i presented several movement prompts to the children that integrated letters and other early literary concepts with creative dance activities. we enjoyed reading, moving, and learning together, and we finished the 45 minute virtual session with some fun holiday activities!.
