Urban Sketchers Seattle July 2011
Urban Sketchers Seattle July 2011 While i was wandering around looking for some of the other sketchers i stumbled across this cute little car and dumpsters on terry and thomas. it started to rain pretty hard as soon as i sat down to draw. We had a fantastic time in seattle – great city, wonderful people. the last evening we all went to hale’s brewery for a little drawing and socializing, and urban sketchers founder gabi campanario and frank ching joined us as well.
Urban Sketchers Seattle July 2011 Good turnout for usk seattle on this rainy day. some folks joined us for the first time. looking forward to seeing everyone again. we met at the seattle art museum (sam). my objective was to see and sketch the new ish installation, "friends with you: little cloud sky". Urban sketchers is a global community of sketchers dedicated to the practice of on location drawing. we share our love for the places where we live and travel—one drawing at a time. Here is the urban sketchers manifesto: 1. we draw on location, indoors or out, capturing what we see from direct observation. 2. our drawings tell the story of our surroundings, the places we live and where we travel. 3. our drawings are a record of time and place. I recently traveled to seattle. yun’s brother lives there with his wife and son logan. while i was there, i figured i would meet the famous gabi campanario. he is the person who created the urban sketchers. i had written to him saying i was coming. Seattle has its famous market where they throw the fish around in the air. it’s a little less exciting in person. i think when you see it on the travel channel or some cooking show, they throw big beautiful salmon to each other. that seems to be for the tv cameras only. in real life, they throw salmon without the head on. they way you would. The fremont district of seattle has a statue of lenin brought back from the former soviet union years ago. it stirred up controversy originally, now it is just considered art in a quirky artistic neighborhood.
